Wired headphones — why no Bluetooth
The essentials in 10 seconds
- Bluetooth adds 150 to 300 ms of latency — it's hardwired into the protocol, it can't be tuned away.
- AirPods, Sony WH-1000X, Bose QC are therefore to be avoided for playing. Your bubble tells you so, by the way: “Avoidable: … come from your Bluetooth output”.
- A €20 wired pair plugged into your audio interface is perfectly enough.
- The headphones must be on the audio interface's headphone output, not the computer.

For scale: between two musicians on Jamodio, the bubble commonly shows “at least 20 to 40 ms”. Bluetooth alone adds several times that, before even counting the network. And since that latency is declared by the system without being verified, it does not appear in the figure: Jamodio flags it separately, as “Avoidable”.
Why Bluetooth is so slow
It's not about headphone quality or price. It's the protocol itself. The audio signal goes through several mandatory steps:

The "low-latency" mode on BT gaming headphones doesn't change anything here.
These modes (e.g. Logitech, SteelSeries, Razer proprietary 2.4 GHz) reduce latency for video games, but 20 to 40 ms remain between the computer and your ears. A wire adds nothing measurable.

The fix: wired into the audio interface

Any wired headphones will do
No need for studio cans. A €20 pair with a 3.5 mm jack is enough. What matters is the cable — not the price.

Plug them into the audio interface's headphone output
Not into the computer. Into the USB audio interface (Focusrite, Behringer, M-Audio…). The interface's headphone output goes straight through the optimized digital-to-analog converter — no extra buffer.

Pick your interface as Monitoring output in Jamodio
In the studio, open Audio settings → Audio output: the Monitoring output must be your audio interface (e.g. “Scarlett Solo USB” or “UMC22 Audio”), not “Built-in Output” nor Bluetooth headphones. Then pick the channel pair of the headphone jack. → configure your audio interface

If it does not work
- You cannot hear yourself in the headphones: Audio settings → Audio output → the Monitoring output must be your interface, with the right channel pair (the headphone jack's). Then the interface's headphone volume knob.
- Your bubble shows “Avoidable: … come from your Bluetooth output”: your wireless headphones are still the chosen output. Switch the Monitoring output to the interface.
- You hear yourself twice: you are listening to your instrument both through the interface (direct monitoring) and through Jamodio. Turn one of them off.
- Only one side of the headphones plays: wrong channel pair, or a mono adapter. Pick the headphone jack's pair, and a stereo (TRS) adapter.
