Send several tracks (multitrack)

The gist in 10 seconds
  • You sing while playing guitar? In Multitrack, your guitar and your voice go out separately: every musician sets each of them in their headphones.
  • Up to 4 at once: a mono track counts as 1, a stereo track (or the one carrying your plugin) as 2.
  • In MY SEND, one line per track: its GAIN, its pan, its mute. On the others' desks, your strip unfolds to show your tracks.
  • When recording, each track gets its own file, just as you send it.

Mono, Stereo or Multitrack

In Audio settings, Instrument section, the I send line offers three ways to send your instrument:

Multitrack needs an audio interface with at least two inputs. Jamodio reads how many inputs your interface has: you only see the channels it really has.

Choosing your tracks

1
Choose “Multitrack”
Open Audio settings, pick your audio interface, then Multitrack next to “I send”. At the top, your interface's channels are drawn, each with the name of the track using it.
2
Name each track
“Guitar”, “Voice”, “Bass”… The others see this name on their desks, and it names the track's file when you record.
3
Mono or Stereo, then the channel
For each track: Mono and its channel (“Channel 2”), or Stereo and its pair (“Channels 3+4”). A channel already used by another track is greyed out, with its name.
4
The plugin, on one track
A line's FX button puts your plugin (amp sim, effect) on that track, and that track only: your voice stays natural while your guitar goes through the amp. One plugin at a time. The track carrying it comes out in stereo: it counts as 2.
5
Check “Sent into Jamodio”
At the bottom, one block per track, twice as wide for a stereo track: that is what goes out to the others. 4 at most. If it is full, switch a track to mono, remove the plugin or a track. Then Save.
What about the headset mic?
All tracks come from the same audio interface. To talk between songs, keep the talkback, with the mic of your choice: that is what it is for.

Your tracks in MY SEND

On your strip, the MY SEND frame shows one line per track, and the header reads “3 tracks” instead of your instrument:

There is no overall GAIN in multitrack: each track has its own.

What the others set on their side

On the other musicians' desks, your strip shows a “3 TRACKS ›” button instead of your instrument. Its fader sets your whole send at once, as usual. One click on the button and your strip widens: each of your tracks appears next to it, with its pan, fader, M and S.

Recording in multitrack

When your strip is armed (R) for a recording, each of your tracks gets its own file, named “Your name – Guitar”, “Your name – Voice”… A mono track gives a mono file, lighter.

Plan some room in your Library: 4 tracks are 4 files. If a musician changes their tracks during a take, the recording stops there, keeps what was played and says so.

If it does not work
  • “Add a track” is greyed out: the send is full (4 of 4), or your interface has no free channel left. Switch a track to mono, remove the plugin or a track.
  • A track stays silent: watch which channel moves when you play, in your interface's channels, and check that its line is not muted (M) in MY SEND.
  • No synth in multitrack: that is intended, multitrack only sends audio. For a MIDI instrument, switch back to Mono or Stereo.

Checklist before playing in multitrack
  • “Multitrack” chosen, each track named
  • Each track on the right channel: its meter moves when you play on that channel
  • The plugin on the right track (FX button), or none
  • “Sent into Jamodio” at 4 or fewer
  • Each track's GAIN set while playing loud, without “TOO HOT”
